New Suzuki Swift SZ-L Hatchback Special Edition

The car is called the Swift SZ-L, and the basic idea is that it looks more sporty than it really is. Despite looking rather like a 1.5-litre GLX, it's actually based on the 1.3 GL five-door, so although it costs the same to buy as a GLX of the same body type it's more economical and cheaper to insure and tax.

Extra equipment fitted to the SZ-L but not normally available on 1.3 models includes 15" alloy wheels, metallic or pearlescent paint, air-conditioning, side protection mouldings, carpet mats, heated and folding door mirrors and a certain amount of interior chrome.

The SZ-L costs £10,250 and, like the other 1.3s, it has official combined fuel economy of 48.7mpg and 140g/km CO2 emissions, and falls into insurance Group 4.

Unveiled Suzuki SX4 Saloon at Geneva

At the 77th Geneva International Motor Show, Suzuki unveils the new SX4 Sedan, which has the elegance expected of a saloon and offers high levels of comfort for its occupants. The SX4 Sedan has many attractive features including a particularly spacious interior thanks to the utilisation of Suzuki's traditional high-roof design, one of Suzuki's core attractions.

But the SX4 Sedan is about more than just comfort. Another attractive feature is its excellent driving performance inherited from the SX4 hatchback which is itself based on the widely praised Swift.

At the same time, like all Suzuki cars, the SX4 Sedan incorporates the know-how and dedication of a leading Japanese compact car specialist fully embodying Suzuki's "Way of Life!" philosophy in that it will be fun to drive, a joy to use, and a pleasure to own.

The SX4 Sedan will be produced in Japan, and be available from the coming autumn.

2010 Suzuki Kizashi Officially revealed

After years of lackluster sales and vehicles that haven’t quite resonated with U.S. buyers—the Aerio and Esteem small cars are cases in point—Suzuki is hoping to find a new direction with a stylish new 2010 Kizashi sport sedan that goes on sale at the end of the year, called Kizashi. Although the sedan has been all but confirmed for months, Suzuki made its official announcement for the U.S. market today and included some new details for this new flagship model.

The new Kizashi arrives looking better than any Suzuki sedan we can recall. The automaker declares that the new sedan melds European style and flair plus Japanese craftsmanship and quality; its overall look isn’t particularly groundbreaking, but the athletic stance, big 18-inch wheels, and short overhangs—especially in front—give it a neat, sporty look that clearly evolved from the concept cars of the same name that Suzuki has shown over the past two years.

The 2010 Kizashi will launch with a 2.4-liter in-line four-cylinder engine with lightweight aluminum construction and a balance-shaft system to maintain smoothness. Suzuki calls out its J24B engine as the standard one in the Kizashi; that’s the same same powerplant that the automaker began offering in the U.S. as a more economical choice on the Grand Vitara for 2009.

A six-speed manual gearbox will be standard, though an economical continuously variable transmission (CVT) will be offered for those who want an automatic. Following a recent trend that makes CVTs a bit more enjoyable from a driving perspective, the CVT will include steering-wheel paddle shifters. Front- and all-wheel-drive versions will be offered from the start, and a V-6 version is on the way. In addition, a hybrid version of the Kizashi is under development and TheCarConnection.com estimates it to be less than a year away.

Unlike the Verona, which was built by Daewoo in South Korea and sold in the U.S. through 2006, the 2010 Kizashi will be built by Suzuki in Japan; that’s great news as recent models built by Suzuki have typically had a strong reputation for longevity and reliability.

Suzuki says that the Kizashi “was benchmarked against some of the leading cars in the world,” and the company looked to the Nurburgring in Germany, along with Alpine mountain roads and England’s rural cobblestone roads, for chassis tuning. A multi-link rear setup with “embedded aluminum”—and struts, likely, in front—suspend the Kizashi, while four-wheel disc brakes are standard.

Nothing appears to be omitted on the generous safety equipment list; eight airbags, electronic stability control, and anti-lock brakes are all standard. The available all-wheel drive system in the 2010 Suzuki Kizashi has, like in the SX4, an ‘AWD’ switch that allows better fuel economy when there’s no need for the added traction; in AWD mode, the system splits torque between front and rear wheels based on wheel slippage and throttle input.

Designers kept space-efficiency in mind when penning the interior to “afford comfort and practicality without the wasted space typically found in larger-bodied sedans,” according to the release accompanying the announcement. The enthusiast-themed cabin includes standard sport seats, while luxurious heated leather upholstery with French seams is optional. Top tech features will include iPod connectivity, Bluetooth streaming audio, and a 425-watt Rockford Fosgate audio system.

“Suzuki breaks away from traditional values normally associated with the mainstream,” the automaker declares—an indicator it has no intent to chase the mid-sedan bestsellers like the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord.

Indeed, it looks like the 2010 Suzuki Kizashi will arrive just in time to take over a niche segment of the market that’s recently been abandoned by Subaru and Mazda; a true mid-size 2010 Subaru Legacy and Outback hit dealerships this summer, and the 2009 Mazda6 was redesigned as a significantly larger sedan. The Kizashi measures about 183 inches long and less than 72 inches wide, with a respectable 106.3-inch wheelbase, so it will have few direct rivals—except maybe the Ford Fusion or Kia Optima—while being a bit larger than compacts like the Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Mazda3, or Subaru Impreza.

Ever since Suzuki’s SX4 small car arrived in the U.S. the editors at TheCarConnection.com have been huge fans—especially of the hatchback (called SX4 Crossover). In our Bottom Line of the SX4, which Suzuki says is the least expensive all-wheel-drive model in the U.S., TheCarConnection.com points to the SX4’s sporty driving feel, relatively quiet interior, and strong overall value; a Garmin nav system entered the standard-equipment list for ’09.

The 2010 Suzuki Kizashi is due to U.S. dealerships this coming winter.

2009 Suzuki Grand Vitara Images

The 2009 Suzuki Grand Vitara ranks 11 out of 23 Affordable Compact SUVs. This ranking is based on our analysis of 65 published reviews and test drives of the Suzuki Grand Vitara, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.

The Grand Vitara stands out for its off-road performance, powerful engine options and roomy interior. However, it simply can't compete with top crossovers in its class due to a somewhat bumpy ride in around-town driving.

The 2009 Suzuki Grand Vitara is designed to excel at off-road driving, but its performance suffers on the pavement. Still, Suzuki gives the Grand Vitara an edge with its affordable price and category-leading warranty. "All 2009 Grand Vitaras -- which are built in Japan on a rugged unit-body chassis reinforced by a ladder-style frame -- are fitted with stability control and side-curtain airbags (with rollover sensors) as standard equipment, along with rear disc brakes," says Road and Track. "This makes Suzuki's already pleasant little crossover SUV that much better, that much more of a competitor for the Honda CR-V, the best-seller in the class and a front-driver at heart."

For this year, the Grand Vitara gets a new four-cylinder engine option and a more powerful V6. It also gets a revised exterior and more interior amenities. Even with the improvements, the Grand Vitara still falls near the bottom of its class for fuel efficiency -- and is now listed among the slowest-selling SUVs in America. For more efficient and smoother-riding options, consider the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4.

The Grand Vitara seats five and is available in several trims -- base, X Sport, and Luxury -- with either two-wheel or four-wheel drive.

New 2010 Suzuki Kizashi Sedan Spied

MSIL (Maruti Suzuki India Limited) seems to be getting ready to launch a new car, a crossover of sporty looking sedan in India. Christened as Maruti Kizashi, the sedan is still in initial stages and will take about a year’s time for the launch, say around 2010.

Maruti Suzuki Kizashi; however, was unveiled during 2007 at the Frankfurt Motor Show and then in 2008 at the Auto Expo Delhi.

Although there are no cues to the exact pricing of the Maruti Kizashi, feelers say that it will be priced around 10 lakhs and so obviously one can expect the sedan to be a premium car with no compromise on luxury features.

Still the USP of the Maruti Kizashi will be its incredible aerodynamic designing and a stylish front with huge grill. The headlights (LEDs) will taper down in an angular fashion giving it a fresh yet stylish look to the Kizashi. We have not seen such a fairing for any of the existent Maruti cars, however, it certainly doesn’t look like a car for Indian roads as the bumpers almost kiss the ground.

Maruti Ritz which was launched recently still needs to click in the Indian market and with cars like Kizashi Maruti portfolio certainly will be bolstered. Maruti Suzuki India Limited is India’s largest car maker as well as seller in the country, but in the sedan segment it has to make its mark felt and as of now it has Swift and Swift Dzire cars in the segment. However, there is a lot of competition for sedans and Maruti will have to work through new sales strategies to create an impact.

2011 Suzuki Kizashi : Inside & Outside Spied

Suzuki has already announced that it will produce three variants of the Kizashi — a wagon, CUV and sedan. The Kizashi and Kizashi 2 showcased the wagon and CUV body styles, respectively, and the recent Kizashi 3 at the New York Auto Show previewed the sedan.

Although the name may (or may not) change, the Kizashi will be built in Sagara, Japan, and will arrive at dealerships in early 2010.

Suzuki is pitting the Kizashi against Toyota’s Camry and the hot-selling Chevrolet Malibu, therefore it was no surprise to find a few of the Chevys out testing with the Kizashi prototypes.

Inside, the Kizashi looks to have a more up-scale look than we’re used to seeing from the Japanese brand. The center stack appears to take on the same shape as the concept’s front grille, with chrome-rimmed gauges set nicely in the gauge cluster.

Power-wise, we’re expecting the base model to be equipped with a 150+ horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, and the top-of-the-line Kizashi will be powered by a 3.6-liter V6 — rated between 280 and 300 horsepower — mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Of note, the V6 is said to be derived from the same powerplant found in the Cadillac CTS and Chevrolet Malibu. A hybrid version is also in the works.

Expect the base model to sticker from about $21,000, with a range-topping Kizashi tipping the scales at $28,000.
