Subaru Impreza WRX STI on sale in Japan
TOKYO — Fuji Heavy Industries has put the Subaru Impreza WRX STI Spec C on sale in Japan this week. The new model is a higher-performing version of the WRX STI with improvements to the engine and chassis and a lightened body.
The WRX STI Spec C gets a retuned ECU for quicker response and acceleration from the horizontally opposed 2.0-liter 16-valve turbo-4, which makes 304 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. Subaru has upped body rigidity and added an aluminum engine hood, smaller battery and revised window glass to lighten the WRX STI. Suspension modifications and a change from a mechanical to a Torsen-type limited-slip rear differential are claimed to give better traction in cornering.
The Spec C gets a set of 245/40 Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tires on new lightweight 18-inch alloy wheels (17-inchers are optional). Gold Brembo brake calipers and optional Alcantara/leather seats with red contrast stitching add color to the Subaru. Exterior colors are limited to Sunrise Yellow or Pure White.
Subaru will make only 900 WRX STI spec C cars and has not released pricing.
